To build the Spreader Bracket, you cut out a wood piece with 8-inches length and 2-inch width. Then, you round the edges and draw a middle line at 1 inch away from each side.

Next, you drill three 1/4-inch diameter holes: two holes of 1/2 inch at each edge on the centerline, and the third hole at 1 inch in from one edge on the centerline.

After that, you use a jigsaw and cut along the middle line to create a slot in the spreader bracket. However, you have to leave a hole on the right side for the bolt.

Step 6: Attach a Lip

After cutting a 2-inch wide piece of wood, you join this piece to the left side of the jig with some deck screws. It should be 1 inch away from the top of the board. 

Step 7: Attach the Bracket to the board

To finish this Tapering Jig, you attach the bracket to the board. 

Place the hole on the right bolt and the slot over the left bolt. Tap it down into its place. After you add a flat washer, you lock the bolt onto the right bolt. Then, you tighten till it is snug, yet not too tight to rotate on the bolt.
